So, I read this, and it reminded me of my first con.
That reminds me of the time I cosplayed Prussia.
I was at a con, though not going to say what or when for the sake of privacy, and one of the youngest people of the Hetalia group. Not the youngest, certainly, but there were twenty year olds in our group. It was surprising, then, when one of the convention managers who had been following our group around had asked me if I could “keep an eye on” the rest of the Hetalia cosplay group, because there were a lot of Prussias and Germanys and I seemed like I was one of the most responsible Prussias there. I asked what happened, and they explained to me that someone had gone to a fucking Holocaust Museum as Prussia and Germany, in full Nazi regalia, and did the Goddamn Nazi salute.
I’d just like to note that I’m not as hard in the fandom as I was before, though I still love it to pieces, but I’ll admit that Homestuck has stolen my vascular pump. But people who throw buckets at people (Homestuck) or run around “invading peoples’ vital regions” and molesting people and acting like Nazism is the coolest fucking thing (Hetalia) are giving the rest of us members of those fandoms a bad name.
Please, for the love of God, don’t assume that we’re all like that. I can’t stress it enough: we’re not all terrible. We’re not all weebs. We’re not all fucking crazy yaoi rapists. Some of us are just people who like a convoluted plot like Homestuck has. Some of us are just people who like history and find Hetalia amusing because of it. Please, don’t lump us in with them.
Tl;dr, WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DRESS AS A NAZI TO A FUCKING HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL?! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
